Ran into the same problem. I may be forced to use Linux. I guess the honeymoon is over for mining on Windows.

How many rigs are you managing? Once I got to over 5 rigs, it became a PITA to manage them all and thats when I moved to Simplemining. I am at 9 rigs now and 3 desktops. The cost is minimal but having not to deal with windows issues is priceless at this scale. I would be happy to give you demo of my setup if you want. 🙂

Good video Kev, thanks for sharing this.
I am using Win 10 Pro, but find when I disable Win defender after a day or 2 it turns itself back on. Though I am suer there is a way to completely disable this for good.
Also a licensed version of Windows 10 (like Pro) offers far more disable options than Win10 home unlicensed version as its less customisable.
(I am Preaching the Choir here no doubt, lol )

Is it possible to exclude all the files individually as well as the folder for a temporary workaround?

My chrome, firefox and sometimes even internet explorer blocks some programs such as Zenemy 1.11, their dedicated github got blocked everytime. once going through the sortiment of different browser it finally downloaded and instantly got flagged by windows defender and the issue started over … all i say is "fuck of windows and other programs", let me decide what to download or not.

Hi Kev, I would recommend using Smos. Very easy to use, Looks a lot better than Hiveos and has more of a professional feel about it. 2 Dollars a month per rig to use it is well worth it. Supports up to 15 cards per rig also. I am finding the overclocking feature very useful in this hot weather as you can set it to have different overclocking settings for each separate card. So if one is running really hot you can dial that one down a bit

    Hello Kev,
I use the free version of Avast.
It seems to override Windows Defender so Windows update does not mess with any exclusions you have set up in Avast.
I use Awesome Miner and Nicehash with no probs after Windows updates.

ive been using windows pro from a cheap key. had no issues, which version of windows you using maybe that could be the problem, only reason i went for pro was to be able to disable updates and update when i want to update, as pro unlucks the feature. dont know if this helps.

Windows firewall windows security oxymoron! Use windows awesomeminer if you have to use Winblows for other things but Linux is ALWAYS the way to go. Giving away awesomeminer license contest closes Sunday night. I ALWAYS DISABLE THE WINDOWS GARBAGE LIKE DEFENDER! AM has tried to put in a bypass for that but M$ always screwing you. Malware will be bypassed if you send a check to Mickey Soft! Not kidding! I use Malwarebytes whenever it finds a miner (updates) I just add another permanent exception. Turn the Winbloze crap off. Also disable file and print shares, and about 10 other things but this post already too long.

First, thanks for all the effort, I really enjoy your content, thanks. I waited months before switching the majority of my rigs from windows to smos, I still hav 4 rigs on windows and windows is much higher maintenance. I have found that Smos just runs, hash rates are higher and payouts from the pools are better than running awesome miner as a skin over the mining programs. I still need windows for a few coins but I far prefer smos when possible.

I had the same issues with windows defender, I just ended up disabling it, which isn't ideal or a good idea by any stretch, but I figured since I use my rigs just for mining, no personal files or online banking, it was worth the risk, to avoid the headaches of sorting it out. But yeah moving to an alternative OS is looking like the best option, i've heard good things about both SMOS and hive.
